New Beginning
My culminating effort is a little story that I've titled "new beginning," and it centers on a number of climate-fictional situations. I hope you like it! The story is told from the first-person viewpoint of the main character, who goes by the name Robert, and revolves on his battle to come to terms with a decision that May very likely end in him being placed in jail or be killed. The narrative is told from the first-person perspective of the main character. While he is doing so, he mulls over the circumstances that led him to his current predicament, how those circumstances defined him, and what he ought to do with his life going forward in light of those circumstances. As he mulls over the choice, he also mulls over the circumstances that led him to his current predicament.
Robert was born in south Florida in 1992, he grew up with is single parent mother and joined the university of south Florida, that is where he met his lovely wife Angie, and had a daughter called Rosie. Robert is afraid that there is possibility that global sea levels will have risen by more than a foot by the time Rosie, who is turning 10 this year, blows out the last 20 candles on her birthday cake. It doesn't matter what happens, but she'll be turning 40 at a time when many cities in the Southeast are likely to be flooded for more than a month owing to the high tides.
As she gets closer to her 50th birthday, her village might be rendered uninhabitable if the global sea level rises by more than eight feet. This is a situation that, in the past, was inconceivable but which is now a real possibility. Because he wants to be able to protect her from the end of the world, Robert does not want to even consider the possibility of a scenario like this occurring. Along with the coastline, businesses failed because there were no longer any residents in the area to buy or sell food and other goods. The government of the United States will eventually close the border with Mexico and other parts of the country as a result of the large number of people who are seeking asylum in other, safer states, as well as the people who are beginning to seek refuge in the United States from Mexico and other countries that are in close proximity to the United States. At the same time, a state of martial law is going to be put into effect because there are going to be a lot of demonstrations and the storm is going to keep getting worse.
The rise in the frequency and intensity of storms causes a lack of food and clean water, which in turn causes governments to become more aggressive, which in turn exacerbates preexisting interstate and international conflicts. This is done in an attempt to deflect public attention away from the government itself and to offer the people something else to aim their wrath against. This is done in an effort to give the people something else to concentrate their anger toward. At the same time as the Third World War breaks out, scientists working for the government and the military begin covertly developing a program that would later be known as Project Helios. Because there is a severe shortage of food at the time, this effort includes genetically altering troops with plant DNA so that their energy may come from photosynthesis rather than food, which is in severely limited supply. Robert is presented with the chance to join the forces, which ultimately leads to his undergoing a change that strips him of part of his humanity. As a consequence of this change, this is due to the fact that he is resolved to do everything is in his power to protect his mother, wife, and daughter. The new military campaign that is in the works aims to conquer the Cascadian Free State and secure its food supply. It also aims to eliminate the lesser peoples and gain global dominion. Williams discloses that the climactic consequences of the campaign are intended to make the planet untenable for typical people, despite the fact that military scientists have estimated that the impacts of the campaign might make the planet uninhabitable. Robert had a crisis of conscience, and after finding a secure location for his family, he starts formulating a strategy to make contact with rebels operating inside the Western Union in order to devise a strategy for combating Williams. When he arrives in Los Angeles, which is currently submerged, he meets the leader of the main rebel faction there. Together, they devise a strategy to destroy the Helios Serum in order to prevent the creation of any new soldiers and to win the support of the democratic UNRA, which is vastly more technologically advanced than the Western Union. The UNRA has stated that it will only intervene in the conflict if the serum is destroyed. The narrative then returns to the present, where Robert has reached the conclusion that he will carry out the act of treason he originally planned. After making his way to the Helios Lab, he learns to his dismay that Williams has been keeping the idea to himself the whole time. He and Williams start fighting one other, and then Robert takes the choice to trigger a critical state in the reactor on the level above in an attempt to kill Williams and the serum entirely. This action causes the reactor to go into a critical state. He is able to do this task, and then he wakes up on a UNRA Heli carrier, where he is informed that the plot was a success, and that Williams was successfully ousted, along with the authoritarian Western Union government. In this new era, the nations of the world band together and launch an international climate project with the goal of restoring the environment. The project involves the construction of artificial land above the water using a recently developed piece of technology that was developed by researchers in the Cascadian Free State. The scientists think that the building of artificial land above the sea would enable great accessibility to new places, both by sea and by land. This would be beneficial for the development of ports as well as residential and recreational areas in the Cascadia Free State.
