Every time I take the bus, it reminds me of the day I accomplished my biggest dream. It was so impactful that not only I take the bus to go to school, but also to go to the mall, to go to concerts, and to hang out with my friends. It was the best day of my life, and I will never forget any detail about the experience.

My favorite boyband, “Los Angeles de Cuba,” announced they would come to Miami during the summer. I never had the opportunity to meet them since their concerts were expensive, and they never went to Sancti-Spíritus, the town where I was born. My obsession with them could be highly noticeable since their names always came in every conversation I had, my friends knew all their songs by memory of the many times I sang them, and my room was full of posters of them. That boyband had meant everything to me since I was a child and going to the airport was my only chance to see them.

When I told my mom about going to the airport, she refused to the idea since we did not have a car at the time. Still, after giving it a second though, she understood how important it was for me. After informing ourselves, the easiest way to get to the airport was by taking a bus and an uber. A crazy idea, but at the same time, the only opportunity of accomplishing my biggest dream.

The most anticipated day arrived, but unfortunately, it was raining and thundering outside. The plan almost got canceled, but it finally cleared up, and we were able to go to the adventure. It was my first time in a bus, and I was impacted by how the system works and by the community.

To get inside, every person has to pay $2.25 per ride, which is placed in a bill insertion slot. It can be paid either with an easy card or with cash, and there are discounted products for students and elders. Since we did not know those options, we paid with cash, and the driver explained how to insert it. It was surprising seeing seats for everyone since, in Cuba, the bus gets full, and people are tight and standing. In addition, it was interesting seeing so many people with different styles. There were many workers, especially doctors, which could be seen by their clothing, young people listening to music, and girls doing their makeup. Everyone was polite, and I felt welcomed by the community.

The time of getting off the bus was almost arriving, and it started raining again. My sister and I shared an umbrella since we only had two, and my mom used the other. As we walked three streets in the rain, with an umbrella in our hands, I realized my phone had been left on the bus. My body was entirely shaking, my hands were sweating, and my heart was beating so fast that it felt like it was going to jump out. The hope of getting to the bus and finding my phone was very little since I thought anyone who saw something of value would grab it.

To reach the next stop of the bus, an uber was our next method of transportation. Unfortunately, there was an accident, and it caused massive traffic. Being stuck on the same street for over ten minutes felt like a million years, making me anxious about not arriving on time. Noticing my desperation, the driver went through another route, and we got to the bus stop just as the bus was passing by.

Upon arriving, we explained to the driver what had happened, so we would not have to pay again, and he let us in. Getting to the chair I was sitting in and finding the phone exactly where I left it was the most relieving thing I had experienced in a long time. It impressed me a lot the fact that no one took the phone, and no one even noticed it was there. In Miami, people do not have the necessity to steal since most of the community work hard to get their own needs and afford their own luxuries.

The adventure continued, and we only needed to walk a few streets to get to the airport. From the distance, I could see the airplanes arriving which made me feel nervous and excited. Due to the size of the airport, it took us some time to find the specific port through which “Angeles” were coming. To my surprise, I noticed the mother of my favorite band member, Sian, and decided to approach her. I greeted her and asked her how long it would take them to arrive. “A few minutes”, she answered, in which a tear suddenly fell from my eyes.

Instantly, a group of fans who shared the same dream approached me, and we were able to live the experience together. “Angeles” finally arrived, and my first intuition was to run toward them and give them a big hug. They welcomed me with open arms and with the kindness that characterizes them. I had the opportunity to take many pictures and express how much I loved them and how long I had been waiting for that moment to come. “You are so beautiful” were the exact words that Sian had told me, to which a big smile crept upon my face, and my heart felt with joy. While tears falling down my face, I thanked him and felt the happiest person in the world. The moment I was living was unbelievable since it was a goal that I never thought I could achieve, but with my mom's and my sister's help, I accomplish it.

Undoubtedly, it was the best day of my life, and although the day put obstacles, I overcame them and achieved my greatest goal. Due to this fantastic adventure, taking the bus has become my routine to go to school since it brings me back to the memories of meeting “Los Angeles de Cuba”. As of today, I am not the only one that takes the bus, my story also impacted my friends, and it has made us take it together and have a great time.
