<text>Ava stared out of her apartment window in shock, watching the streets of Miami flood more and more from the rising sea levels and daily thunderstorms. The water was waist-deep and people were struggling at this point to walk through it. She had heard about the growing concern of sea levels rising and the potential flooding it would cause, but she never thought it would come to this.

In the distance, she could see the once glorious Seashell Symphony Hall. She had always dreamed of performing there, but it was now abandoned and left to decay. It was one of the most Iconic buildings in Miami, with its unique Shell-shaped design. Ava had always imagined herself performing on the stage of the symphony hall, in front of a huge audience, but now when she looked at the rundown building, a wave of sadness washed over her. It was hard to imagine that a place that was once filled with life and music was now nothing but a shell of its former self.

Ava’s determination was unbreakable though. Every day, she would sit in front of her piano and pour her soul into her music, imagining herself singing at the symphony hall to that huge audience. Music was her happy place, the only thing that could calm her anxieties about the future and the changing world around her.
One day, Ava heard that the Seashell symphony hall was being restored to its former glory. Ava was overjoyed. She knew she had to audition no matter how small the chances were that she would be cast. She practiced tirelessly for weeks on end, perfecting every note, cord, and movement. She knew this could be her only shot to fulfill her lifelong dream.

On the day of the auditions, Ava was completely on edge. She paced outside the symphony hall and watched all the other singers walk past her, each one seemingly more skilled than the one before. This led her to cast doubt in herself, overthinking to an extreme. But then she remembered all those hours of practice, the determination she carried on her shoulders watching the city of Miami before her eyes. She took a deep breath and walked into the hall, ready to sing like her life depended on it. As Ava stepped onstage, she felt like her heart was going a hundred miles per hour. She began to sing, and she sang with such passion and emotion that the judges were left absolutely speechless. And before she knew it, she had landed herself her dream role.

Ava still couldn’t believe that she landed the role. She felt like she was on top of the world but then, the reality on the Seashell Symphony Hall set in. The hall was in shambles, the seashell chandelier had fallen to the seats of the theater and there was so much work to be done before she would be able to perform. Ava and the rest of the cast and crew worked tirelessly, rehearsing and perfecting their performance. They battled against the scorching heat, humidity, and the constant threat of flooding. Even with all the tireless hard work that they were doing, the outside world completely doubted the practicality of them performing in the hall. People said it was too dangerous, too impractical and too risky. That didn’t stop Ava. She refused to give up on her dream and pushed her team and herself to the limit to make this performance a reality.

One day after rehearsals, Ava was exploring the symphony hall. Ava stumbled upon a hidden door. Ava carefully opened the door and found herself face-to-face with the infamous Maestro. He was the music conductor who had lost everything due to the flooding. He had lived under the symphony hall for years, not being able to let go of his memories of his once spectacular career. Ava could not believe her eyes or ears. The Maestro spoke in a soft and trembling voice, his eyes filling to the brim with tears. He told Ava how he dedicated his whole life to music and how Seashell Symphony Hall was the place he called home for decades. He reminisced on the days he would stand at the podium commanding the orchestra. But then, the flooding happened, and everything changed. The symphony hall had been abandoned, along with the Maestro. Everything he had crumbled. His career, reputation, and his sense of purpose.

Ava listened intently to the Maestro’s story and felt so much compassion for him. At that moment, she had realized that his love for the symphony hall was just as intense as hers was. She began to see him in a new light. Not some lunatic like everyone said he was, but someone who lost everything he ever knew and cared about. She wanted to help him in any way she could.

Ava continued to practice for her performances, but she couldn’t shake the image of the Maestro out of her mind. He was living alone in the dark under the symphony hall. She knew she had to do something, but didn’t know what that something was.

One day, she overheard some of the stagehands talking about the strange things happening in the symphony hall. Her scores were being tampered with, her music was out of tune, and props and stage equipment were disappearing into thin air. At first, Ava thought they were just coincidences. But then the sound system started to malfunction and the lights started to flicker. Now it was becoming more than a coincidence for Ava. She couldnt shake off the fact that someone could be sabotaging her performances but she didn’t know who.

As the first performance drew closer, Ava was visibly becoming more anxious. Then she remembered that the Maestro knew about every crick and cranny of the symphony hall and went down to confront him. His actions were hurting people and Ava was determined to help him see that what he was doing was wrong. When Ava found him he was sitting curled up in a ball, mumbling to himself. Ava approached him cautiously, but as soon as the Maestro noticed Ava there, he was startled. She opened her mouth to say something but he attacked her, pushing her to the ground.

Marco, the man responsible for rebuilding the symphony hall to its former glory, couldn’t ignore the fact that something was very much off with the Maestro. He noticed the tension between Ava and him and how each and every one of her rehearsals was being sabotaged. Marco decided to investigate, and as he dug deeper, he uncovered the Maestro’s true identity and the reason he was doing all of this. The shambles of the Maestro’s brilliant career left him bitter and resentful, unable to let go of his former glory. So the Maestro had been sabotaging these rehearsals out of spite because he believed Ava was unworthy of performing in the Symphony hall. When Marco confronted him, he refused to listen at first. But the combination of Marco’s stubbornness and persistence won the Maestro over, convincing him to instead of sabotaging Ava, help with her performance and put his talent and knowledge back into use.

So the work began. There were rehearsals nonstop, and as they prepared for the reopening, the reconstruction of the symphony hall moved faster than ever. Just like that, the Seashell Symphony Hall looked like a whole new place, and the Maestro had tears in his eyes. He never thought he would see the symphony hall look like this again. So majestic, restored to its former glory. He thought the symphony hall had seen its final days after the flooding had started. He was so sure that he would never be able to conduct music for an audience in the symphony hall again. Now was his second chance. He was sure he removed all his sabotages from the hall and worked tirelessly with Ava to make sure the performances would be perfect.

The night of the first performance was finally here. Ava was a nervous wreck. She couldn’t believe that the night was finally here. She had waited for this moment her whole life. This moment will change her life forever. As she exited her dressing room, she took at least 15 deep breaths, trying to calm her racing heart and shaky hands. As she walked to the wings of the stage she saw Marco, pacing on the side of the stage, seemingly more nervous than she was. She walked up to him and gave him a long, lingering hug. No words needed to be spoken. It was because of him that her dream was coming true. If he hadn’t invested in the symphony hall, god knows where she would have been right now. He had him to thank for everything good that was happening to her.

Ava assumed her position on the stage. Her long blue dress glimmered as the curtains opened and the spotlight was set on her. Every song she sang, she sang like it was the last song she would ever sing. She hit every note and her performance was impeccable. The crowd went wild every time.

As the performance went on, the Maestro felt uneasy for some reason. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it. He had taken the sabotages out of the wings, the lights, and the- It hit him like a train coming at full speed. He forgot to take the sabotage out from under the stage. As he had this thought, the stage under Ava had collapsed into.

Everyone in the audience gasped, screamed, and ran. How could he forget? The largest sabotage he had made. He quickly ran under the stage to where the trap had led to.

Ava hadn’t even realized that the ground beneath her had collapsed. It happened so fast. She was so disoriented and dizzy, she couldn’t tell where she was. She used the little bit of strength she had left to call out for help but felt the space around her blackening and her eyes slowly closing. She then felt a jolt wake her up. The Maestro appeared in front of her. The Maestro quickly carried her through a maze of stairs and corridors guiding her to safety from the collapsed stage. As he emerged from under the stage carrying Ava, everyone sighed in relief, but also in confusion as to who could have done this.

The Maestro stepped forward and took responsibility for his actions. He thought he had removed all the sabotages from the hall, and only realized during the performance that he had left the sabotage that collapsed the stage there. He was so regretful of his actions. He had truly grown since Marco had confronted him. Ava saw this and immediately forgave him. She witnessed his growth firsthand when they practiced endlessly for the performance. She truly had no bad blood with him. The pair vowed to move past it, and the reconstruction of the stage began the day after.

3 months later-

The cast and crew of the Seashell Symphony Hall had begun working on a new show- The Phantom of the Opera. The stage was replaced and any sabotages left were removed immediately after the stage collapse. Ava and the Maestro worked so hard to make sure that this show was perfect, from the music and the acting, to the costumes. The symphony hall couldn’t risk another incident like that, even though the incident had made the Seashell symphony hall grow in popularity. It was now the only place in the partially submerged city where you could enjoy entertainment again. Marco, Ava, and the Maestro were proud of the legacy they were rebuilding. The symphony hall would hopefully stay strong in this city and they were only just beginning to make a difference with the symphony hall.

As the audience walked in, the hall shimmered in the dazzling lights and chandelier hanging above them. The curtains opened, and Ava started to sing, and with all her might she did.
