<text>The city of Miami was as hot as it has always been, with the hot and humid feel that everyone was already used to. The people of this city had always been aware of the potential sea rise but never paid any attention to it as it would never affect them directly. But year after year, the residents saw little changes in their local areas. Noticing the water being much higher than it ever was. Once they realized the mistake they had made, they tried so desperately to fix it, sadly it was too late. By the year 2115, the city of Miami was 6ft under water and there was no way of fixing it. The only thing they had to do now was to adapt.

Residents were forced to move out of their homes and forced to relocate inside the area. Others tried to leave the city but were unable to because cars were useless, the airport was destroyed, and boats were as rare as toilet paper was during the Covid-19 pandemic. Many people didn’t know how their lives could ever feel “normal” again. Imaging their lives practically underwater was hard for some and were scared for their future. However, a young man named Alex, had a different viewpoint on the new Miami, he knew he would be able to make the best of his new situation.

Alex had always been someone who loved the thrill of adventure. He was always eager to explore the world around him. Now that the world was sunken 6 feet under water, he had to find new ways to explore this sunken world.

Spending more time underwater meant that Alex would become an experienced swimmer in no time as he is someone who is a quick learner. He would learn how to hold his breath for long periods of time and become a very fast and swift swimmer, making it easy for him to get past all the narrow spots that were made because of all of the debris from broken down infrastructures. Being able to swim allowed him to see places that he was never able to see before. It allowed him to feel free and any weight that he had to carry, like backpacks, felt like nothing.

A spot that Alex would go to religiously to clear his mind was the Miami beach marina, well what was left of it after the water practically changed it forever. It was a popular spot for those who enjoyed exploring like Alex, since it was filled with multiple interesting things to discover. He also liked to explore hotels that was once known all over the city like the Fontainebleau and the Eden Roc.

Now he wouldn’t just travel to only one location. He would venture off to any location that he had not searched before. With there being no more traffic or anybody telling him not to go into a specific place, he was free to go to essentially anywhere his mind could think of. He would go into abandoned restaurants and act like he was a chef in the kitchen, swim through museums that are barely noticeable from before and give himself a tour, free of charge of course, and teach himself about the museum’s history. Despite the danger of swimming through the submerged city, Alex loved to explore and discover new things. Each dive brought the possibility of finding something new and exciting, and he was determined to make the most of his underwater playground.

Alex would always go on his adventures with his usual equipment like his 8-inch flashlight and his snorkel and goggles, but his equipment doesn’t make the best companions. His closest friends help fill that void for him.

First, we have Jack. Jack and Alex first met once the water started to rise, and they both volunteered to help move people out of their homes that were in the danger zone. Jack is a former marine who worked as a combat diver. Someone who Alex also met while volunteering was Maya. She was helping by giving out warm food to those who were forced to move out of their homes. Maya was studying to become a marine biologist and was fascinated by the sea level rise and wanted to know what she could do to help lower the rise. Finally, Sarah, she was the only one of the bunch that did not meet Alex after the sea rise. Her and Alex met when the were just 3 years old and have stayed friends ever since. Even though Sarah may not have the same love of the ocean as the others do, she loves adventure, and she is fierce and will never back down from a challenge. With these traits that they all possess, it makes them a near perfect team.

One day while they were going on their adventure, they stumbled across an area that they had never seen before. As the group approached this place with hesitation, they quickly thought to themselves they should turn back. But, in an instant Alex swam right into this unknown area to explore what was waiting for him. The rest of the group lost him as he swam too fast and they were now trying to find where he went, so they decided to split up to find Alex as quickly as possible.

He swam towards it he started to notice his reflection on the shiny chest. He noticed the lock that was once there had come off due to the water that had risen. He grabbed the chest and went up to the surface as he may have thought that there would be something valuable in it and he did not want to lose it in the water. He opened the chest and noticed there was a piece of paper in there.

Alex first thought about showing his group but his excitement got the best of him and he started to open up the chest and the paper that was inside as his heart was beating with excitement he started to think what his friends might say he wondered about their joyous reactions and what this could mean for all of them the treasure map was hard to read at first but after some more glances he was finally able to read the map he knew what direction he was going to take and was overjoyed with his new adventure on his hands.

Alex didn’t want to tell his friends right away about the treasure map because he was scared about their reaction. But he couldn't keep the secret to himself. He knew deep down inside that they were the only ones he could trust and that they were the only ones qualified to help him find the treasure.

Therefore, he went back to get his friends and tell them the exciting news. However, when he got back, he noticed they weren’t at the same spot they were at last time. In a panic he swam all over the area to find his friends. When he finally found them, they weren’t alone.

He found his buddies trapped in the arms of a giant octopus and he wouldn’t let go. Alex froze as he didn’t know what to do. But then he got a sharp object, swam right to the octopus, and tried to stab him in the face. He missed, but Sarah was able to achieve the sharp object, while being in the clutches of the octopus, and stab him right on the hand, not killing him, but forcing him to let them go.

Once they were free, they made fun of Alex for missing the shot at the octopus for more than five minutes. But they finally gave him a break and stopped teasing. Soon after, they were done with that Alex then showed them the map that he had found inside the chest.

After the battle the squad now realized how tough this journey was going to be. They knew that not only were they going to have to travel far, but also encounter many dangers that would lie ahead. Therefore, they all grabbed gear and prepared for any battles they may face. They got scuba gear to help them stay under water for long periods of time and weapons like harpoons to help fight off any danger they may have to deal with.

As Alex and his friends follow the map's clues they realized that finding the treasure would not be an easy task they had to swim through narrow passageways and tunnels that were blocked by rubble and debris from the collapsed buildings the murky water made it difficult for them to see and the darkness made it even harder on them.

While they were on their expedition, it seemed as if nothing could go wrong. Finding all the waypoints that the map had shown for them and feeling as if they were a step closer to the treasure. On their way Jack accidentally got caught on something sharp and cut his arm open causing him to bleed. It was no big deal as it was a minor cut and all he needed was to be patched up. Sarah did just that and patched him up. However, the smell of blood did attract the attention of some nearby “friends.”

A huge shark started to make a dash towards the group looking as if they had not eaten in months. All with the look of fear in their eyes started to make a swim for it. Very soon they all realized that they weren’t fast enough to out swim the shark. Maya came up with the idea to split to force the shark to make a choice. So, they all split up and the shark stayed stuck to Jack as he was the one that had the cut from earlier. As he tried to swim for his life, he knew the shark was getting closer and closer, finally he found two columns that had fallen and used that to separate himself from the shark.

This only kept them apart briefly as the columns started to break and the shark’s teeth were inching closer. As Jack cried for help, he started to fear that none of his friends were going to come. But then Alex came and started to distract the shark and lured him into a trap that Sarah made. While that happened Maya helped Jack out because he was in a state of complete shock. After he was helped up, they all checked on each other to make sure they were all okay. There was a moment when they each gave each other a look of “should we keep on going?” Nonetheless, they knew that they were so close, thus they decided to keep on going.

30 minutes pass by with all four of them on the edge of their seats waiting for someone or something to attack. Whilst following the map Alex notices something extremely bright and he thinks it could be the chest. Immediately without hesitation he swam to the object, as he got closer his hypothesis was correct and it was the treasure.
Alex and his friends surfaced with the treasure chest, they were met with a surprise, the massive octopus from earlier was back, and it was angry. It had clearly been waiting for them, its eight long arms thrashing through the water in a menacing display.

The octopus leaped at them with the intent to attack as he did not forget what had happened earlier Alex tried to keep the chest safe by keeping it out of reach of the monster's all four of them try to fight back but they weren't strong enough they grabbed them all by their limbs and pulled them into the water as they struggle to feed themselves the octopus continued its attack.

They all looked at each other, with the look of defeat, thinking that this was the end, thinking they were all going to parish. Then Alex had noticed the sharp object from earlier, with his one available arm, he reached out to it and grabbed it. He looked right in the eye of the octopus, and he knew this time, he would not miss. He threw the object as hard as he could, and it would hit the octopus right in the eye and through the brain killing it and ending its reign of terror.

The group swam to the surface and were finally able to look at what was inside the treasure chest. When they opened it up, they saw a bunch of gold and valuable items that would cost a fortune. They looked each other in the eyes and knew what needed to be done.

Years had gone by, Miami, still underwater, was on the verge of being the city everyone knew and loved worldwide. Alex, Sarah, Jack, and Maya were known all over the city of Miami and were known as local hero’s beloved by everyone for changing the landscape of their city for years to come.

The group looked at the city that they helped bring back to light. No more were they considered as a city that needed help but as a city that was ready to thrive and take any new challenges head on. Alex, filled with emotion, started to cry because he knew that this was all possible because of what him and his friends did to make this city a city that was worth something again. And whatever challenges that may come, ahead Miami would always be able to rise again, just like the treasure that had been lost at sea.
