<text> Shots! Shots! Shots! Shots! You could hear the girlies from across the block as they celebrated the end of their extremely difficult spring semester. Months had gone by since any of them had touched any sort of alcohol because they had been so focused on maintaining their scholarships at the University of Miami. Ava walks up to Meghan’s at home surround sound and begins blaring the best ego boosting songs to prepare them for the night they had ahead of them. She begins singing “THE NIGHT IS STILL YOUNGGG” as she places her phone down to pick up the nearest red solo cup. When times were different, and school wasn’t as intense they would go out as a group just about every weekend just increasing their tolerance to alcohol weekend by weekend. Ava seemed to be the anomaly of the group; she was born invincible to nights out in Miami automatically putting herself on mission get everyone as plastered as possible. Ava looks at Monique and yells “OPEN UP” as she pours a quarter of the bottle of straight vodka down Monique’s throat. Demi and Meghan standing to the right of Monique tilt their heads back basically informing Ava to do the same to them. Monique wipes her mouth and says “tonight is OUR night” not knowing what was to come of “OUR” night.

The blackout curtains are shut locking up any sunshine from making any sort of appearance into Monique’s small bedroom. Her extremely heavy eye lids still covered in makeup from the night before causing her to stumble down the hallway with all of the girls.
“Guys, someone order the uber as soon as possible so that we can make it in time for ladies’ night” yells Monique. Ava holding on to me for dear life pulls her phone out and orders the uber. I knew that while I was over here plastered before even making it out of the house the girls would make it a point to have a blast. Demi and Meghan grab my ID making sure that it is in safe hands and makes it out while also helping Ava push me through the front door into the Uber. Stumbling into the car I look deep into the poor underpaid Uber driver’s eyes and request a song to be played on max volume. By the way… his name was John, and he did exactly what I asked of him. Ava, the only one sober enough to have a somewhat decent conversation with John looks over at him and begs him to “step extra hard on that accelerator” because we could NOT miss free entrance for Ladies night at Racket. Ava just knewwww the way to my heart. A totally free and reckless night out with all of the girls. It is exactly what we all needed before the stress of the spring semester kicked in.

Let me tell you one thing… I whispered (or so I thought) into Demi’s ear.
John is soooo nice and he has done everything my princess self has asked him to do but damn does he talk so much. Sea level rise this, seal level rise that! Can he just get the hint, that’s just not possible if we live on land. Demi pinched my arm so hard as if telling me to just shut up and look out of the window for the remainder of the ride.

We FINALLY make it to Racket in Wynwood. The streets are bumping and there is absolutely nowhere for John to park near Racket because of how many people are just walking the streets aimlessly. I looked over at Demi, basically giving her the look of “get me out of this car before John loses a limb.” Not even my drunk self could handle to hear one more word about how much the city was going to have to change when the water levels began to rise. Meghan sitting by the door closest to the sidewalk says, “here is good” and opens the car door. I couldn’t have been more grateful; it was like she had read my mind. We all jump out of the car and all the doors slam in synch. As soon as I walk into Racket there is about thirty minutes left of lady’s night, meaning thirty minutes left to cause an alcohol level rise in our bodies I yelled. The girls and I just could not stop laughing.

Vodka sprite after Vodka sprite just down the hatch every couple minutes, making sure we all get the FREE out of lady’s night. Demi was dancing on the DJ Booth, which is a huge shocker because Demi doesn’t even dance in the first place. She had decided to go absolutely feral tonight, which good for her honestly. Meghan and Ava were right by my side downing as many drinks as possible until I began to basically feel my knees get weaker as the seconds passed. I have never been diagnosed with epilepsy but somehow for some reason these lights made me feel like I was on some other planet. Little by little every part of my body started to feel numb. All of a sudden, every drink I had drank starting from the moment we were getting ready at home was catching up to me.

This is where the night took a turn… everything went black.
The room was spinning I had one leg hanging off the bed, a Publix bag right by my head, bullets of sweat dripping down my body but somehow still managing to shiver. I forcefully lift my arm which in fact felt like I was lifting an entire semi-truck in order to unglue my eyes with all of the leftover makeup on it in order to gather myself.

“Where in the world am I and how did I end up in a room with all of the girls drenched as if we had just jumped into a body of water” I said to myself… or so I thought. Ava looks at me and starts bursting out laughing.

Girlllllll, you have no idea what you just went through. Not even what you just went through but what you made ALL of us go through last night. “Wait… didn’t we just go to Racket for Lady’s night” said Monique with a puzzled look on her face.

“NOOO GIRL” yelled Ava. You’re thinking of the last time we went out to Racket where you got plastered and ended up at home brutally hungover. Last night was straight out of a movie Monique! “So, you’re basically telling me I completely blacked out and don’t remember anything except for the last time we went out at the beginning of the semester?!” Yeah, pretty much said Ava.

“OK OK hurry cut to the chase, replay everything that happened last night so she can try and remember” shrieked Demi and Meghan.

As usual I was under mission get everyone as plastered as I possibly could. But what I didn’t take into consideration was the fact that we hadn’t been out in so long and no one reminded me that you were such a light weight. So essentially, it’s my doing for initiating the blackout in the first place but it’s okay. It was for the plot righttt…

We are all getting ready at Meghan’s house, you know me; the second I get there I connect my phone to her surround sound, and I start blaring “THE NIGHT IS STILL YOUNGGGG” by Nicki Minaj, everyone with a full red solo cup in their hands and we’re hyping each other up for the first night out after being stressed out for three consecutive weeks with finals. The second you yell out the words “this is OUR night” Demi, Meghan and I just knew this night was going to be an interesting one. We all finish getting ready, I stand off to the corner trying to figure out how to work the new Uber Boat app while Demi and Meghan tend to you. I somehow figure out that times are different, and the Uber doesn’t pick you up at your location, they have set “block docks” located at the end of every dry land block where the boats can park and wait for you. I really don’t know how we pulled this off, but we somehow got you and your stumbling dead body weight onto the Uber Boat docked a little over a block away. You hop onto the boat and the first thing you tell the captain is how right your last uber driver, John was about the universe. You pretty much had everyone on the boat dying at that point. It was all fun and games blaring music and cruising down the streets we used to drive down in cars with a boat until you started to complain about the movement of the boat and it making you feel a million times more drunk than you already were. Demi comes up with the so called “genius” idea to help you up to the front of the boat so that you could get as much wind as possible.

Welllll. Let’s just say it was definitely not our brightest moment yet.
The wind speeds were pretty high not just because we were cruising fast down what we used to know as the turnpike, but the winds were strong because of the current pulling into land. With all this current from the ocean comes the sea life like crabs, fish, shrimp and possibly even more dangerous, sharks. Next thing you know, BAM there you go Monique, right off the front of the boat into the water. Just as the captain had expected. He slows the boat down and begins to turn it around in order to get back to where you had fallen. By then I, the closest to sober one in the group take matters into my own hands and jump in. I was definitely not going to let you flying off this boat ruin our first night out in forever, and I knew (sober you) wouldn’t want that either. I’m using everything in me to fight the current and swim as best as I could just to get to you.

Luckily, the massive waves from all of the boats passing by gave me that extra push that I needed in order to get to you. In that last little push, I got from a 22 foot boat carrying a good ten people on it I just got this pit in my stomach. Like something was in the water, I just couldn’t see a thing because one it was so damn dark outside and 2 because the water from the ocean was now on land it was picking up all the garbage making the water beyond murky and hard to see through. I manage to grab your arm and in that moment is when I feel something swipe my leg and I see our Uber Captain throw in a massive buoy he had on board. All this while Demi and Meghan are frantically sobering up on the boat deciding whether or not their friends are going to survive and more importantly if they are going to make it out to Racket for the night.

By some sort of miracle, you and I hopped onto the buoy and the best captain in the WORLD pulled us back onto the boat. We stumbled onto the boat pretty much in disbelief that we had one survived something like that and two spent four hours getting ready to just look like a bunch of wet rats. All you kept repeating was “well this night has definitely been OUR night.” Per usual, we all look at each other and give each other thattt look. The look that we are not going to let this dumb but scary event control our night. This was just a small setback in our new life. We get dropped off a little over a block away from Racket and it was almost like the night restarted from there. Monique, you had literally gone from being plastered at home getting ready to sobering up with the whole boat situation and SOMEHOW still managed to get replastered at the club. In typical Monique fashion, there was never a dull moment. You and I were so soaked that not even four hours at the club could dry us off. Hence why you’re in bed right now while all of your clothes is sitting in that trash bin fully drenched from last nights shenanigans. Not only did we manage to get sloshed last night, but John the Uber driver from the last night out was right; our city was now sloshed with water from the oceans surrounding us.
WOW, I’m in utter disbelief at the fact that I recall absolutely nothing from last night chuckled Monique. But all I can say is that sounds like one heck of a night and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
