Washed up on shore…Alex saw a person lying on the ground outside and risked his own life to take her inside. She was pale and blue with scratches all over her face and he couldn’t just leave someone out in the storm to die. The year is 2073, and climate change is now worse than ever in Miami. The water levels are through the roof (literally), and everything looks different. Once Audrey wakes up and comes into realization she’s not with her father, she panics. Before Alex found her washed up in front of his home, Audrey was out on the boat with her father when a hurricane began to form with such intensity, it would’ve been considered impossible 50 years ago. However, with this storm, it struck them tremendously and next thing you know, they are separated. As she panics, Alex reassures her and explains to her what happened. When she begins to remember her last moments with her dad, she shares it with him. So, Alex then says that he wants to help her find her father once the storm ends, she disagrees as she doesn’t even know him, but he says, “No, please, you can’t go out alone, and I feel like I need to do this.” She then tells him, “ I don’t understand why you “feel like you need to do this,” but okay, fine.” And finishes her sentence with a small smile. Few days go by and naturally, they get to know each other, and feel safe with one another. They have packed and planned their trip to find her father and have decided that the sooner the better, so they got going. Throughout their trip, they stopped somewhere to buy essentials, supplies, groceries, etc. Alex recognizes a few of his childhood friends and introduces them to Audrey. “Nick, Laura, and Gracie, this is Audrey.” Nick being the blunt and expressive person he is says, “Oooh is this your girlfriend?” When Alex replies with, “No, I knew you were going to say something like that, I’m actually helping her find her dad, because they got separated during the storm.” “Wow you didn’t have to expose me like that,” Audrey says. “Sorry”, Alex replied in an embarrassed tone. “Hey you know what, we actually had some random guy come up to us the other day saying how he lost his daughter and even showed up a picture to see if we recognized her, but we obviously didn’t.” “Now I’m thinking, what if it’s your dad, Audrey?” “Nick, I think we just became best friends, do you remember what he looked like?”, Audrey asked. “Not really but, he said that he couldn’t talk much because he needed to be somewhere, but I never thought anything of it.” “Did he tell you where he was going?” “Somewhere near Homestead, but he clearly didn’t give me all the details.” “That is more than enough info, thank you.” Then Laura felt the sudden urge to say,” We could tag along, if you don’t mind. To be honest I need to get out more, and I feel like we would make great additions to your team and to your little mystery you got going on, what do you think?” “Yes, yes, yes, Audrey said rushed, the more people who can help me find my dad, the better, thank you.” “Okay, well, let’s get a move on then”, said Nick. Once they were out on their boat travelling towards Homestead, Audrey want to make conversation and break some ice with her new teammates. So she said, “How do you guys all know each other?” Alex started to explain that he, Nick, Laura, and Gracie all met when they were children. They were all placed into an orphanage since they were babies and grew up with each other. He told her that they were all the best of friends and shared the best memories throughout their times together. But, once they turned 18, they of course, had to leave and make their own ways in the world. Nick explained that he, Laura and Gracie actually became roommates for a while because he had no clue what to do without them. Alex on the other hand, wanted to live on his own to see what the world was like and what he could do with it. Audrey listened to them as she randomly brought up, “Am I the only one who hates Miami now?” “I mean, my dad would tell me how wonderful life here was when there was still land.” “It just infuriates me that our generation couldn’t experience that because they were so careless before.” “There was land before?” Gracie asked in shocked. “Yes, how do you not know this”… Audrey replied. “Uhh Audrey we didn’t have parents to tell us stories, not to make things awkward.” Said Nick. “Oh, yeah, sorry… “Please stop talking for a minute, doesn’t that look like Audrey’s potential father?” Said Laura out of nowhere. Nick interrupted saying, “YES, that’s him, I remember he looked like he had gotten beaten up.” “Where, where, WHERE!” Audrey yelled. “Right in front of you,” Nick stated. “YES That’s definitely him, I can recognize him from anywhere.” “But who are those guys he’s with, was he in a gang or something?,” Laura commented. “NO, Never”, Audrey replied, “And, I don’t know who those people are…”What if they are hurting him, what do we do, I can’t let my dad stay with those people, I need him back!” Just as she yelled that in a panicked tone, the group of men heard her and started to leave IMMEDIATELY. As Audrey and her group fled off behind a building watching the men closely from afar, the men searched for where the noise had came from, but then left when they couldn’t find the source of the noise. “Lets follow them, but we have to be very careful guys, alright?” Audrey whispered. “Got it” the group replied. As the group followed the men and her dad they reached a tall and bulk building; it almost looked like an abandoned hospital. Audrey furrowed her eyebrows in confusion as they continued to follow closely behind. The men entered through the old doors as Audrey led the group into a broken window. They followed the men quietly for almost half an hour until they reached a dark room with a ray of sunlight being the only source of light. “Abraham, Abraham, Abraham.” Negan said in an amused tone. Abraham, (who is Audrey’s father), sat in silence staring at the ground. “Hey” “….” “HEY!” Negan shouted causing Abrahams eyes to shoot up immediately. “Listen to me Abe, I wanna make you understand something alright?” “Yes sir”, Abraham replied shaking in fear. “You made my Sherry leave me. She didn’t want you to know she was having an affair with me and that I was the one who got her pregnant. I told her I loved her, but she still she left me and took our kid claiming it was yours, just so you wouldn’t know. She was all I had, and you took all of that away, you hear me?” Abraham stared into his eyes with a questioned look painted on his face. “Don’t look at me like that.” Negan said with anger lacing every word he said. He raised his fist punching Abraham to the ground. The contact made Abraham shake on the ground quivering in fear and pain. “Get up.” Abraham complied as to not get hurt again. “Good boy, see you do understand huh?” “Yes sir, I’m sorry I truly didn’t know sir.” “Ya sure Abey boy?” “Yes sir.” “Well I don’t believe that for a sec-“ Negan was cut off with a shard of glass shattering to the old wooden floor. “What was that!” Negan shouted out making the whole room shake. Audrey and her group were shoved onto the floor bruising their knees with the hard floor. “Well, well, well what do we have here?” Negan said in an intimidating yet, teasing voice. “Audrey?” Abraham whispered. “Daddy?” Audrey replied with tears flooding her eyes and her voice quivering. “This is your daughter?” Negan asked shocked. “Please don’t hurt my little girl. Oh, please don’t hurt her she’s all I have left please. Kill me, not her!” Abraham begged tears pouring down his face. “Hey, hey, hey Abey boy. I’m not gonna hurt your daughter. Yeah I wont hurt her.. She’s mine after all am I right Abey boy” “What is he talking about daddy?” Audrey asked. “Yeah your mama was having an affair with me, and I got her pregnant, I told her I loved her, but she didn’t want your daddy to find out so she said it was his kid and left me. Understand that darlin’?” Audrey stared at Negan in shock. Cold sweat dripping on her forehead, and breathing heavily. “Audrey-“ “No daddy. Why wouldn’t you tell me this. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?” “Audrey, I just found out right now…” Abraham replied with his voice barely above a whisper. “What? I’M SO CONFUSED!” Audrey shouts in frustration. “Listen sweetheart. Your mama is the bad guy in the story now don’t get me wrong I hate your daddy and that’s why I’m gonna kill him. But blame your sweet ol’ mama alright? She did it, he didn’t know.” Negan stated in a taunting voice. “Then why are you going to kill him then?!” Audrey asked hoping he was just bluffing. “Because I feel like it… BECAUSE HIS WIFE LEFT ME AND TOOK MY KID TOO. ALL BECAUSE OF HIM!” Negan shouted veins bulging against his forehead “I’m tired alright? Now I’m not letting ya’ll walk away from this all nice and happy. One of you guys gotta pay the price. And from now on, once I punish ya’ll, you will obey me and stay with me until I feel like killing you Abraham. I’m gonna torture you mentally, so that once I kill you, you wont feel anything in fact, you’ll be happy to feel pain other than all the pain I’ve caused you.” “Please Negan. They’re kids. Don’t hurt them hurt me.” Abraham pleaded. “Sure Abey boy sure.” “Ar-are you serious?” Abraham asked cautiously. “Yeah man yeah.” Negan pulled out his gun raising it to Nick and shot him straight in the chest. His body falling back slamming against the floor. “NOOOOOO!’ Audrey let out a bloodcurdling scream almost shattering every window in the room and piercing everyone’s ears. Audrey leapt off the ground charging straight towards Negan and shoving him to the ground. Negan’s gang pinned her to the ground raising a gun to her head. Negan stood up walking towards her at a slow pace. “Hey Mike. Shut those kids up for me.” “Gotcha boss.” Mike replied. “Audrey right? Listen darlin’ don’t ever pull that ever again or I will kill your daddy now and your little friends alright?” “You disgust me.” Audrey replied with pure hatred. Negan chuckled and walked towards his gang. “Let em’ go and beat her daddy for me alright?” “Yes sir” Audrey shut her eyes and cried harder with each cry for help Abraham let out. As he continued to get beaten for 20 more minutes, Negan finally dismisses his gang and orders them to take the group into another room, leaving Audrey and him alone together. “Listen to me sweetheart. Your daddy just got beat to pulp but he’s still alive.” “Barely” a chuckle escapes his lips. “As far as your friend, well he’s pretty dead.” “You stay out of this, you and your little friends better leave so you’ll live and be happy.” Your daddy and I will be justtt fine alright?” “Mhm” “Good girl.” As Negan walks out the room he lets the group go back in and grabs Abraham on his way out. “Nick- I’m so sorry I couldn’t stop him.” Audrey cries harder as she cradles his lifeless body. “It’s okay, none of this is your fault.” Alex whispered to her. “We all love you so much Nick.” Said Gracie. “The firew-.” Nick said with all his strength. “What?” said Alex. “I have some fireworks in my pockets that I got when we all met at the store, use them to grab the police’s attention and get out of here.” Nick instructed them. “You’re a genius Nick, thank you.” Audrey kissed him on the forehead as he slipped away into his death. Alex was able to contact the police and explained everything he could in this short amount of time. He told them to look for the fireworks. Right after he made the call, Negan’s gang came into the room and took Audrey away. While she was being tortured with her father in another room, Alex grabbed a pocket knife he found on the ground and Laura grabbed the fireworks from Nick’s pockets and they made a run for it. Negan heard a disturbance and said, “What is all that NOISE GOING ON THERE NOW!!!” “Now!” Alex yelled. Gracie set the fireworks on and the whole building was filled with enormous pockets of smoke. As Negan and the gang were blinded by it, Alex got into the room where Audrey and Abraham were and cut the roped off of them and got them out. As they made their way towards the door, Negan caught a hold of Audrey’s shirt and snatched her behind. BOOM! The door was down, and the police miraculously showed up just in time. “Finally, we’ve been looking for you guys for a while.” Said the police. “All of you.” Looking to Audrey and Abraham.
