Once upon a time, there was a little girl with golden curls, cinnamon-colored skin, and eyes as blue as the depths of the sea. She was eight years old, and her name was Alice. She lived with her parents on a beautiful farm surrounded by many animals and leafy oak trees, from which she would swing from one to the next. Her house was on an island, where the sea lapped at the shore.
Her house was white and very tall because it stood in the middle of the water.
She used to walk around the estate; sometimes she went fishing with her father, and she would get very upset when she couldn’t leave the house because of the heavy rains that often flooded it. One morning, during a heavy but not overly intense rain, she and her family went out to sea in a small boat they owned. Upon returning, they found their house half-submerged in water, and many of their belongings destroyed and scattered. To Alicia’s great sadness, she couldn’t find a small pink doll with golden, curly hair like hers in her bed; her doll’s name was Lulu. She cried inconsolably all night long until her bed was flooded with tears over the loss of her doll.
Everything was in ruins; the water had risen high enough to cover the neighbors’ houses. Many ambulances and planes were rescuing people, the rocks were covered by huge mountains of salt, completely calcified. It took many years to recover from the disaster, but the most striking thing was the vast number of lizards wandering among the people and the water. These animals had grown gigantic, like dinosaurs, with deformities in their bodies because they had eaten all the plastic from that natural disaster that could have been avoided by producing less waste.
Those animals grew so large that humans became their subjects; they ruled, and Miami Beach became the island of the dinosaurs. They ruled; they were the owners of everything. They built huge castles surrounded by mountains of salt, but the floods continued because people did not realize the gravity of the situation until the genetic transformation that occurred in these animals, turning into ferocious monsters.
Faced with this problem, the water began to seep into the houses, flooding everything that stood in its way. But in the midst of that chaos, a little girl was crying and searching for her doll, Lulu, yet she feared becoming the prey of one of these transgenic lizards that had turned into immense monsters.
But Alice decided that everything would change; that even though she was just a girl, she would fight with all her strength to save the world from the sea’s encroachment so that people wouldn’t lose what they loved most. Because of this, that six-year-old girl dedicated herself to promoting small actions and details at school—such as recycling and avoiding plastic—so that children would become more aware of not just buying toys but turning trash into other products; she would go to the bay on Sundays to encourage people to pick up trash from the sea.
She would cry and say that in the midst of difficult circumstances, she had learned to make a different kind of change to improve her life and that of others. Her efforts were so great that more people joined her cause. Three years passed, and at age 13, during one of those trash collection and reforestation efforts, she found what motivated her to make a change: her doll Lulu, who was made of rags with huge braids of wool for hair and a red dress.
But her problem didn’t end there, because she had to do something more; every day the problems with those challenging transgenic animals grew, so another challenge began: the War of the Transgenic Frogs, with Alice, a 13-year-old girl who fought to defeat those giant animals. One morning under a blazing sun, where her golden curls shone in the radiant sunlight, she was with her doll Lulu, who told her that while she was missing, she had overheard the conversations of the giant lizards. They said they were growing stronger because they fed on plastic and substances they extracted from the calcified rocks in the sea. They had a plan was to take over Florida, become stronger, and fight to flood everything to the point where only they would rule, because they were very strong and people were very foolish, thinking that every flood just happened and that was it.
That’s how Alice, upon hearing what Lulu told her, came up with a plan against the giant lizards. She devised a meal of organic food that they used to give her every afternoon with her doll Lulu—food rich in organic spinach and sweet potatoes that satisfied these animals. As they ate the food Alice prepared, they shrank in size, becoming animals that kept getting smaller in size.
In the middle of a swampy, rainy area with shifting sandy ground where the lizards were so powerful, they breathed fire from their mouths, they moved from one side to the other, growing to the size of buildings; the sea’s inundation of the houses was so severe that they collapsed every day. Living in an environment surrounded by water, due to a lack of awareness—not only because of climatic factors but also global warming resulting from environmental pollution—has caused the ice of the glaciers to melt, and that fresh water from the Antarctic ice arrived, causing environmental damage. It was impressive how Alice, in this constant struggle, had to endure the hot ocean water on her body, which raised the sea level, undertaking an almost titanic task in her desire to free her territory from the harshness of natural phenomena and the misdeeds of human beings. Her efforts to care for the planet turned Florida into a swampy area full of transgenic lizards.
Alice fought from a boat she rowed herself alongside her doll Lulu; there were many porous limestone rocks that absorbed the salty seawater, causing the earth to tremble and the buildings to sway from side to side. On that journey, which lasted for days, Alice and Lulu fought against all odds to save the earth and the world. Diving into the depths of the sea, they asked other marine animals what was happening. On that journey, they met a beautiful pink dolphin named Luna, with whom they played, jumping from one place to another. She promised to show them the mysteries of what was happening and to take them on different journeys with her pod so they could understand. So, they plunged into the depths of the sea, where Luna, in a whirlpool of blue water, led them to a large, rushing river surrounded by jungle, where there were indigenous people with half their bodies naked, wearing necklaces and skirts made of dried banana leaves. The dolphin tells her she’ll meet the tribe’s shaman, who is a healer, and that in that place there are over 80, 000 varieties of plants on which chemical-free medicines are based, and that they should ask the Mamo for a remedy so that the genetically modified lizards would be healed and return to their natural state. This is how Alice speaks with the Mamo, Antonio, who tells her what is wrong without her even asking: “You have come to seek a cure.” Alice replies, “Yes.” The shaman tells her, “You must reconcile with Mother Earth and first ask God for forgiveness for offending His perfect creation.” And so, Alice, holding the hands of Lulu and Luna, kneels and asks God for forgiveness, looking up to Heaven and saying, “Forgive me for not being grateful for the gifts You give us, for immersing my life in things that are truly unnecessary.” Then God appears, dressed in a white robe, of an unattainable height and stature; He takes Alice’s hand and says, “I have nothing to forgive you for. You are a pure child; you are an angel sent from Heaven. Remember to love Me first above all things, but never forget that animals are My creatures—love them and respect them.”
After this, a cool, calm breeze passes by; Jesus Christ departs, and Alice weeping, says, “Mother Nature, forgive me.” The trees respond by swaying their branches as a sign of forgiveness. Then Mother Nature tells Alice that she will show her the plants that will help her solve her problems.
Mamo picked some leaves from the avocado tree and prepared an infusion for her with oregano and mint. Days passed as she enjoyed nature with her doll Lulu and the pink dolphin Luna.
Later, Alice decided to return to her home, but this time she did so alongside the pink dolphin Luna. It was a wonderful journey; they leaped in the Amazon River and played with the other dolphins until they found the tunnel where a freshwater whirlpool carried them to the sea. Alice returned to a swampy area, but this time she had hope for change. She began scattering seeds from the avocado tree throughout the swamp, and they grew. The lizards ate these plants, and their size transformed into that of ordinary lizards, which gathered in herds of normal size. The avocado trees grew tremendously, reducing flooding on sunny days; the tides have run their normal course, and Biscayne Bay has become an earthly paradise, a natural lung for the planet. Today, Alice is 20 years old; her dolphin Luna and her doll Lulu continue to accompany her in her foundation called “An Adventure to Save Biscayne Bay from Sea Intrusion.”
Despite the reforestation efforts led by Alice who is now a marine biologist to improve conditions, street levels have been raised; similarly, engineers recommended that construction projects respect the protection of flora and fauna.
